The use of n-vinylimidazole in polymer radiation chemistry
Description
Aqueous solution of poly(N-vinylimidazole) undergo cross-linking under irradiation with the formation of gels. These exhibit good biocompatibility. The reaction occurs with a much higher efficiency than that of a similar water-soluble polymer: poly(N-vinylpyrrolidone). There is evidence that here again the double bonds in the imidazole rings contribute to the gelation process. Although poly(N-vinylimidazole) gels exhibit properties similar to those of PNVP gels, their ability to complex some molecules, such as proteins, is much greater and this opens interesting prospects for potential uses of such gels.
