CEMS with applied magnetic fields on a 57Fe ion-implanted TMR granular film (II). Analysis of spectra

Description

An α-Al2O3 single crystal implanted with 57Fe ions (100 keV, 1 x 1017 ions/cm2) was investigated using conversion electron Moessbauer spectroscopy (CEMS) with applied magnetic fields, Bex, up to 4 kG. The following components were identified from the consistent sets of least-square fits for all the spectra: two sets of superparamagnetic alpha-Fe particles with the average sizes of ≅ 4 and ≤ 3 nm; γ-Fe like (non/paramagnetic) particles with isomer shifts ≅ -0.08 mm/s; two forms of ferrous iron (Fe2+I and Fe2+II) which are magnetically not active (paramagnetic). The isomer shifts of the large (≅ 4 nm) α-Fe particles were estimated to be the same as that of bulk α-Fe. (author)
