Description

A theoretical model of surface segregation is developed for binary ordered alloys with long-range order and pairwise interactions. Based on this model the change in nearest-neighbor coordination in the alloy causes a relatively small degree of surface segregation of either component for the low index planes. The theoretical results are applied to the FeCo alloy, for which the surface composition has been measured by Auger electron spectroscopy. (orig.)
