Charmonium spectroscopy at the CERN ISR using an antiproton beam and a hydrogen jet target

  • 1. Laboratoire d'Annecy le Vieux de Physique des Particules, (LAPP) (France)

Description

It is proposed to install a H2 jet target in a straight section of the CERN ISR. The collisions between circulating antiproton and the protons in the jet lead to the formation of charmonium states. In particular those which are not directly accessible in e+e- annihilation will be studied. The good momentum definition of the cooled antiproton beam will allow a precise measurement of the width of these states. Electromagnetic decay channels giving a clean signature of such states will be measured and an apparatus based on calorimetry has been designed
