Development of beta-counting system using indigenous plastic scintillator

  • 1. Radiation Safety Section, Indira Gandhi Centre for Atomic Research, Kalpakkam (India)

Description

Indigenous development of polystyrene based thin film plastic scintillators was initiated at RSD, IGCAR in 2013. After establishing and standardizing the procedure, a beta counting system was made with the plastic scintillator fabricated in-house and its performance was studied. The MDA of the system is found to be 160 mBq for 40K for a counting time of 2000 s. (author)
