In-situ monitoring of the valence changes of uranium (III) and some lanthanide Ions in a LiCl-KCl eutectic melt using the UV-VIS spectroscopic
- 1. Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute, Daejeon (Korea, Republic of)
Description
In this study, we have measured the absorption spectra of U(III), and europium, samarium and ytterbium ions on a real time basis. The UV spectra of the Eu, Sm, Yb ions showed direct evidence of a spontaneous valence reduction to di-valent species. Absorption spectroscopic method was successful in monitor the reduction process in an in-situ manner. This implies that the in-situ absorption spectroscopic method may be applied to monitor the related pyrochemical processes by selecting suitable key ions and spectroscopic properties
