Derivation of detection limits from dose limits for the purpose of environmental radioactivity monitoring

Description
The derived required detection limit for gamma-ray emitting aerosols agrees precisely with the values defined as a required detection limit in the directive for emission monitoring and atmospheric pollution monitoring (REI). The REI sets no required detection limit for precipitation or for in-situ gamma spectrometry of the soil surface. The required detection limits determined in the REI also correspond to the requirements to be met by environmental radioactivity monitoring. The only exception is the required detection limit for J 131 in milk which is to be reduced by a factor of 2. The required detection limits for strontium 90 were calculated in order to show that no special requirements are to be defined for this measuring task. (orig./DG)
Abstract (German)
Die hergeleitete erforderliche Nachweisgrenze fuer gammastrahlende Aerosole stimmt genau mit der bereits in der Richtlinie zur Emissions- und Immissionsueberwachung (REI) festgelegten erforderlichen Nachweisgrenze ueberein. Fuer Niederschlag war ebenso wie fuer die in situ-Gammaspektrometrie der Bodenoberflaeche in der REI keine erforderliche Nachweisgrenze festgesetzt. Die in der REI festgelegten erforderlichen Nachweisgrenzen entsprechen auch den Anforderungen der Ueberwachung der allgemeinen Umweltradioaktivitaet. Eine Ausnahme bildet lediglich die erforderliche Nachweisgrenze fuer J 131 in Milch, die um den Faktor 2 zu reduzieren ist. Die erforderlichen Nachweisgrenzen fuer Strontium 90 wurden lediglich berechnet, um zu zeigen, dass sich hier keine besonderen Anforderungen ergeben. (orig./DG)Additional details
