Description
The present situation concerning the observations of SN 1987 A as well as their theoretical interpretation are reviewed. In particular, questions related to the unexpected appearance of the progenitor star, its presupernova evolution, the explosion mechanism, and apparant deviations from spherical symmetry and their origin will be addressed.
