Sensitivity study of Zn s(ag) fast neutron detector dispersed in plexiglas

Creators

Description

A study was made of the dependence of the sensitivity, epsilon(E), on the neutron energy, E, of dispersed ZnS(Ag) of a B-2 type scintillator, used in a number of industrial neutron radiometers. The neutrons were obtained from the reaction T(p,n) (E less than or equal to 4 MeV) and T(d,n) (E = 18 MeV) on a Van de Graaff accelerator. The detector sensitivity to neutrons was measured with a 60Co gamma radiation background with an exposure dose rate of 104-105 μR/sec. The effective energy, E eff. por., was determined for a number of isotopic neutron sources (239Pu + Be, 238Pu + B, 238Pu + LiF, 252Cf), corresponding to the threshold of recording of neutrons with the given spectrum by the B-2 detector
