Theory interpretations of the LHC search for the Higgs boson

Full text: There has been a flurry of activity by the Atlas and CMS collaborations in their search for the Higgs boson. Results are coming fast, and whether a SM Higgs boson is being seen is unsure. I describe the situation from a theorists perspective, and give some thoughts on the implications of the search results for particle physics in general. (author)
