Description
Objective: To explore the clinical significance of changes of serum TGF-α, TGF-β1 and VEGF levels after chemotherapy in patients with lung cancer. Methods: Serum TGF-α, TGF-β1 (with RIA) and VEGF (with ELISA) contents were measured in 33 patients with lung cancer both before and after chemotherapy as well as in 35 controls. Results: Before chemotherapy, serum TGF-α, TGF-β1 and VEGF levels were significantly higher (P<0.01) in patients with lung cancer. After chemotherapy for 3 months, the serum TGF-α, TGF-β1 and VEGF levels dropped markedly but still remained significantly higher (P<0.05) than those in controls. Conclusion: Serum TGF-α, TGF-β1 and VEGF levels were related to the development of tumor in patients with lung cancer. (authors)
