Description

Small-angle scattering of X-rays or neutrons can be used to characterize porous materials and study their structure on a scale from about 5 A to 2000 A. From the scattering data, the pore size can be estimated, and information about the roughness (i.e. the fractal dimension) of the pore boundary surfaces can be obtained. The application of small-angle scattering in some recent investigations of porous solids (i.e. a lignite coal, a group of porous silicas, several controlled-pore glasses, and three reversed-phase silicas) is reviewed. 26 refs.; 7 figs.; 1 table
