Description

The purpose of this paper is to report on recent developments in welding modeling. A computer program for simulation of three dimensional temperature fields in welds has been under development for a number of years. The code is based on a finite volume formulation using an explicit scheme. The software is required to be accurate, fast, portable, robust and easy to use by welding engineers. The recent developments to be described below concern mainly the execution speed and storage requirements. Increased speeds and reduced disk storage demands can be achieved by using non-uniform static and moving meshes. The paper describes the implementation of non-uniform/moving mesh algorithms, presents selected examples, and summarizes results
