A pulse radiolysis study of electron solvation in methanol-2-methyltetrahydrofuran mixtures above and below the glass transition temperature
Description
Observations of the solvation of electrons by methanol in methanol-2-methyltetrahydrofuran (MTHF) mixtures have been made at temperatures above and below the glass transition temperature. Results above the glass transition temperature are explained by a normal diffusion mechanism for solvation, whereas those at 77 K are explained by electron tunnelling to methanol clusters. Observations of the solvation of benzophenone anions in these solutions support the above mechanisms. (author)
