Control of gaseous effluents in the nuclear industry

The nature and quantity of gaseous releases and the means of controlling and/or treating such releases, and trends that are becoming evident in effluent control are discussed. It is pointed out that effluent control has been going through an evolutionary period with a resultant clarification and qualification of requirements and a developing understanding and rationality with respect to the techniques being used for control. It is concluded that although some areas require further work and understanding, the level of public exposure resulting from the nuclear power industry is extremely low and not hazardous. (auth)
