Optimal rate for measurement of pulsed 14 MeV neutron flux

Description
The optimum regime of a unit designed for determining the 14-MeV-neutron flux of a borehole pulsed-neutron generator is examined. The essence of this regime includes the measurement of a total of two signals, the first of which is recorded in time tsub(1) of generator operation (in the intervals between neighboring neutron pulses) and the second in the time after keying-in the generator, where tsub(1)=tsub(2)=3/lambda, and lambda is the N16 decay constant. A description is given of the electrical diagram of the equipment which allows carrying out the regime mentioned. Compared with generally accepted method of activation measurements, the regime considered allows a 3-fold increase in the signal value at a unit neutron flux, Q, and eliminates the effect of measurement errors due to possible neutron flux variations in the period of determination of the value of Q. The constant supply is equal to 35.000+-500 pulses at 108 neutrons/sec
