Effect of dynamic strain-aging on mechanical and fracture properties of ferritic steels

Description
Synergistic effects of DSA and neutron irradiation in the ferritic steels (mild steel, steel 1040, steel A533B) studied resulted in apparent increases in ductility and strength resulting in improved mechanical and fracture characteristics in some temperature and strain-rate regimes. The effect of DSA in ferritic steels was seen as a reduced fracture toughness in the upper shelf regime. Neutron irradiation did not suppress DSA but postponed it to higher temperatures and an apparent increase in the toughness values. (orig./HP)
