The solar photospheric abundance of iron

  • 1. Gdansk Univ. (Poland). Inst. Fizyki

Description

Reanalysis of iron abundance in the Sun is made using the curve of growth method and fine analysis. Calculations are made with the use of new data for oscillator strength. Obtained results are practically independent of the method of analysis as well as atmosphere models. Mean value of iron abundance, logNsub(Fe) equal to about 6.6, is about one order of magnitude lower than the previously obtained values. Necessity of further investigations based on the best absolute values of oscillator strengths is stressed. (author)
