A variational principle for magnetoelastic, rotating stars in general relativity
Creators
Description
We show here that an extremal energy variational principle can be formulated which, as conditions for the extremum, reproduces the gravitational field equations, the equation of magnetoelastic equilibrium, and an expression for the angular velocity of the star. The proof is carried out for elastic, rotating stars which contain magnetic fields and is done in the Newtonian theory and in general relativity.
