Improvement of mechanical properties in sintered-molybdenum sheets by reducing oxygen levels

Description
Low-temperature tensile properties were examined for sintered-molybdenum sheets, which had been prepared with the aim of reducing impurity levels. It was shown that several trace metallic elements as well as oxygen influence the grain-boundary strength of material. Furthermore, the strengths of sintered-molybdenum sheets could be enhanced and became comparable with those of electron-beam-melted molybdenum sheets, both by reducing impurity levels and by adding the proper amount of carbon. Abstract (German)
Die Tieftemperaturzugfestigkeit von gesinterten Molybdaenblechen, die mit dem Ziel verringerter Verunreinigungsgehalte hergestellt wurden, wird beschrieben. Es wird gezeigt, dass sowohl einige metallische Spurenelemente als auch Restsauerstoff die Korngrenzenfestigkeit des Materials beeinflussen. Die Festigkeit der gesinterten Molybdaenbleche kann verbessert und bis auf die von elektronenstrahlgeschmolzenen Blechen angehoben werden, wenn der Verunreinigungsgehalt gesenkt und die geeignete Menge Kohlenstoff eingesetzt wird.
