Adsorption of radioactive methyl iodide by silver-impregnated alumina

Description
The removal efficiency of methyl iodide using silver-impregnated alumina has been studied as a function of the relative humidity. The chemical forms of impregnated silver compounds and contaminant gases showed that at high relative humidity silver nitrate was the most effective compound investigated. These effects are explained by an ionic reaction mechanism, which involves water vapour adsorption in micropores by capillary condensation and deliquescence processes, followed by formation of a silver ion solution.
