Very high energy gamma-ray observations of Hercules X-1 and 4U0115+63
Description
The comparatively well-understood x-ray binary, Hercules X-1, has been detected by two groups at TeV energies and one at PeV energies, all using the atmospheric Cherenkov technique. The x-ray binary, 4U0115+63 is apparently the same source as Cas Gamma-1, detected by the Crimean Astrophysical Observatory as a TeV gamma-ray source in 1971. It has been seen as a pulsed TeV source by two groups in recent years. Because these sources have optical counterparts, they are better candidates for investigating the mechanisms of cosmic ray particle acceleration than Cygnus X-3
