Electron density diagnostics by FE XXII line intensity ratio

Description

The electron density of a tokamak plasma is obtained by measuring the ratio of the line intensities for Fe XXII 2s22p(2P3/2) - 2s2p2(2P3/2) 114 A and 2s22p(2P1/2) - 2s2p2(2S1/2) 117 A. The intensity ratio of these lines is found useful for the density diagnostics in the range 1012 - 1015 cm-3, on account of its weak dependence on the temperature and of the proximity of these wavelengths. Proton and deuteron impacts are important for excitation from 2s22p(2P1/2) to 2s22p(2P3/2) and the resultant intensity for 114 A. (author)
