Dislocation microstructure in deformed aluminium

Description

An extensive study of the microstructure of deformed crystals were made. Microstructures produced by single glide are characterized by planar structures which lie roughly parallel to the active glide plane. The geometrical and crystallographic aspects of the experimental work are also dealt with. The procedure followed in growing the crystal is also described. Firstly, the notation used to label glide planes and directions is specified and the geometry of single glide is described. The crystals studied had a particular orientation. The hard tensile testing machine used to deform the crystals plastically is described and the relations used to calculate the resolved shear stress and the resolved shear strain during deformation are given. The stress-strain curves of the crystals that were studied are presented. The theory of formation of the diffraction pattern and Kikuchi lines is outlined briefly
