Studies on the radiation burden using I-131 for thyroid therapy

Description
The exposure to personnel from 131I inhaled from open sources during laboratory procedures and that exhaled by patients treated with 131I was estimated. The method and the apparatus used to detect airborne 131I are described. It was found that the ratio of the activity absorbed through the lungs to that permissible for a given category of exposure is not higher than 10%. The kinetics of the 131I exhaled by patients seems to be complementary to that of 131I concentration changes in the blood. (H.K.)
