An expert system to support accident management for BWR plants

  • 1. Toshiba Corp., Kawasaki (Japan). Nuclear Engineering Lab.
  • 2. Toshiba Corp., Yokohama (Japan). Isogo Engineering Center

Description

The authors have developed an expert system to support accident management at BWR plants based on a new concept. Although several operator support systems have been developed since the TMI-2 accident, they mostly derive operational guides based on rules which are installed in advance. On the contrary, this system constructs operational procedures by examining plant functional and structural information which is sorted in the plant database as design data. Accordingly, it has the advantage of coping with accidents without anticipation. The authors have confirmed the system's effectiveness by applying it to accident scenarios
