Superconducting magnet technology
Description
The College of Science and Technology at Nihon University reports on superconducting magnet development for the tokamak fusion device. Toriodal coils, the cluster test program, large coil task, and poloidal coils are discussed. Illustrations show the toroidal and poloidal coil programs at JAERI. An arrangement of cluster test coils and a test module coil are also shown. The development of superconducting pulsed coils for poloidal magnets and the development of high-field coils for toroidal magnets are being conducted at the Electrotechnical Laboratory. The National Research Institute for Metals is developing various kinds of superconducting materials and fabrication methods for conductors, and activities at universities include investigations on superconducting materials, electromagnetic properties of superconductors, cryogenic technology, a model of the superconducting magnet for the Nagoya Bumpy Torus, hybrid magnets, and the superconducting magnet TRIAM-IM
