Laser photochemical neptunium separation

Description

Photochemical reactions of Np(VI) and Np(IV) to Np(V) in nitric acid solutions have been experimentally studied using the Kr-F excimer laser. Even in the presence of large amounts of redox reagents, the oxidation states of neptunium are photochemically converted to pentavalent state in as low neptunium concentration solution as in the actual Purex stream. The result of extraction experiments with laser radiation has suggested the controllability of neptunium concentration by laser in solvent extraction process
