Micro X-ray spectral analysis of weld zone of titanium with steel, obtained by diffusion welding

Width and chemical composition of interstitial (diffusion) layers of welded joints of VT1-0 titanium with the 2Kh13 and 12Kh18N10T steels obtained in different regimes of welding are studied. During investigation of welds of the titanium with the 12Kh13 steel in the temperature range of 650...800 deg C intermetallide phases are not discovered. But sharp decrease of mechanical properties of the welds takes place with increase of the width of the interstitial layer. Regions, corresponding to stoichiometric composition of intermetallides in Ti-Ni and Ti-Fe systems are not discovered in the interstitial layers in the welds of titanium with the 12Kh18N10T steel in regimes Tsub(W)=650 deg C, tau=360 min and Tsub(W)=800 deg C, tau=3 min. Regions with content of 7% Fe and 2% Ni are observed on distribution curves. It is proposed that interstitial layers containing dispersed intermetallide phases correspond to these regions on concentration curves. Presence of these phases results in degradation of mechanical properties of the welded joints. It is established also that ferrite steel is welded with titanium better
