A Study About Scale Effect on CHF in Pool Boiling System

  • 1. Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology, Daejeon (Korea, Republic of)

Description

It has been reported that the size of test specimen influences CHF. It is important to investigate the size effect of test specimen on CHF because it is difficult to perform a CHF experiment of real scale. In this study, several CHF experiments were performed in pool boiling system with different size of test specimen at atmospheric pressure. The test specimens are made of SS304. And they have four widths (4, 6, 8, 10 mm) and five lengths (10, 20, 30, 40, 50 mm). The test specimen is in horizontal position. Working fluid is DI water, and the experiments are performed at saturation temperature. The experimental result showed a trend that CHF increases with decrease of the test specimen size, and the effect of size on CHF is discussed
