Transcatheter embolization of renal tumours with I-125 particles

Description

Remarkably improved survival rates are reported in patients treated for advanced stage renal cell carcinoma by 125I interstitial infarct implant (2y=50%, 5y=37% survival). The interstitial implants are seated by transcatether embolization. The salutory results particularly in patients treated for advanced stage primary and bone metastases suggest the added impact of improved host immune response. The method is recommended for the management of nonresectable neoplasms, neoplasms in a solitary kidney, in patients with medical contraindications to surgical management and to convert unresectable neoplasms into resectable ones. Abstract (German)

Bedeutend verbesserte Ueberlebensraten wurden bei Patienten mit fortgeschrittenem Nierenzellkarzinom festgestellt, die mittel 125J-haltigem Embolisationsmaterial behandelt worden waren (2 Jahre: 50%; 5 Jahre: 37% Ueberlebensrate). Das interstitielle Embolisationsmaterial wurde durch Transkatheterembolisation implantiert. Die guenstigen Ergebnisse, insbesondere bei Patienten mit fortgeschrittenen Primaertumoren und Knochenmetastasen, deuten auf eine zusaetzlich verbesserte Immunitaetslage der Patienten hin. Diese Methode wird empfohlen zur Behandlung nicht resezierbarer Neoplasmen, Neoplasmen bei einer Einzelniere, bei inoperablen Patienten, und zur Umwandlung nicht reserzierbarer Neoplasmen in reserzierbare.
