Investigations of electronic structure of Bi and Sb by measurement of the angular correlation of annihilation quanta
Description
Results are presented of investigations of the electronic structure of Bi and Sb by the angular correlation method of γ-quanta originated from the annihilation of the electron-positron pair. Angular distribution curves were measured for monocrystallic samples of Bi and Sb for three crystalographic directions (011), (111), (011). For the case of Bi good agreement with the theory is obtained for the distribution curves obtained for (011) and (011). A distinct discrepancy is observed between the theoretical and experimental curves for the direction (111). This divergence is assumed to be due to the heterogeneity of the density of electronic states. For the case of Sb divergence is observed for all directions as compared to Jones's zone, containing 10 electrons per elementary cell. It is possible to give a satisfactory interpretation of the experimental data for Sb under the assumption that the elementary cell of metallic antimonium contains 6 electrons. (author)
