Description

The shielding of a power plant with a boiling water reactor is based both on a general radiation protection concept and on special considerations with regard to radiation protection in each individual room and in the area of each radiating component. The level of radiation in the plant is basically determined by two factors: the degree to which the radiating components themselves are influenced and shielding measures. The aim is to divide the plant into low radioactive, medium radioactive and high radioactive areas. Radiation protection in the high radiation areas during both operation and maintenance and in-service inspections constitutes a particular problem. General points for consideration are discussed in this paper. (author)
