Description

The advanced heavy water reactor (AHWR) is a 300 MW(e) boiling light water cooled, heavy water moderated, vertical pressure tube type reactor designed to produce most of its power from thorium with an associated 500 m3/day capacity desalination plant. The core consists of (Th-U233) O2 and (Th-Pu)O2 fuel. A simplified sketch of the reactor is depicted. A number of passive systems that utilize natural circulation have been incorporated in AHWR. Some of them are briefly described
