Utilization of radiotherapy equipment for blood and derivatives irradiation: ideal dose determination

  • 1. Fundacao Antonio Prudente, Sao Paulo, SP (Brazil). Hospital A.C. Camargo

Description

The authors present the technic and equipment used by the Physical Radiologic Service of Radiation Therapy Department of A.C. Camargo Hospital to irradiate blood compounds for transfusion proceedings. The results from investigations show a dose of 2000 c Gy to all target volume, sufficient to neutralize cells responsible by graft-versus-host disease from blood transfusions.
