Assessment of implant quality for carcinoma of the base of tongue in interstitial brachytherapy

Description

The inverse square law ensures that the dose distribution in brachytherapy is always inhomogeneous. According to the suggestion of ICRU committee, this paper assesses the implant quality with the ratio of the peripheral dose (the dose near the edge of the target volume) to the mean central dose (representative of the center of the tumour) and with comparing the reference dose volume and high dose volume (> 150% reference dose) in interstitial brachytherapy
