The electromagnetic scaling of particle lifetimes and masses

  • 1. Lawrence Livermore National Lab., CA (USA)

Description

Empirically, the lifetimes of the metastable elementary particles occur in clusters, which exhibit an electromagnetic scaling in powers of α = e2/(h/2π)c. The particles in a cluster can be correlated in terms of their constituent-quark substructures. There is also some evidence for an electromagnetic scaling of particle masses in powers of α. (author)
