Within the climate emergency - Thinking the energy transition

Written by French and European academics from different generations and disciplines, this collective publication proposes a synthesis of current reflections on energy transition within the perspectives of economy, history, international relationships, political science or social sciences. It addresses various issues such as the meaning of carbon neutrality and the associated world energy landscape, the definition of a resilient world energy system in front of climate change, the way to conceive sovereignty, energy security and the role of the State in a both European and world context. It discusses how transition is putting the French and European industrial competitiveness into question again. It sheds a light on the contribution of sociology regarding energy transition and its influence on present social inequalities, on the fact that ecology divides and opposes so much the political landscape in Europe and in the world. It discusses the actual cost of energy transition for citizens and ways to finance it, and also discusses how political science and economy address growth and progress in front of the hazard of climate change
