Variations in sialic acid content of testis in irradiated mouse preinjected with a thiophosphate
Description
Adult Swiss albino mice were irradiated with three different doses of gamma radiation to observe the effects of irradiation on the sialic acid concentration in testis. It was found that the sialic acid concentration decreased after irradiation upto day 2, reached to near normal at day 4 but again decreased at day 7 and 14. To study the effects of WR-2721 on the radiation-induced changes, WR-2721 was administered i.p. in the form of aqueous solution to the animals before radiation exposure. The drug-pretreated animals showed significantly higher contents of sialic acid in the testes showing protective effect of the drug. (author)
