Radiometric weighing on conveyor belt
Description
The principles are briefly recalled. The weighing apparatus includes a radioactive source, cesium 137 or cobalt 60, a detector (ionization chamber or scintillation counter) and an amplifier. Performance and calibration are obtained by a microprocessor. Accuracy is +- 2% but can reach +- 0.5%. Regulations are recalled. 3000 radiometric balance are in use in the world mainly in the USA, Australia, South Africa. Furthermore the radiometric scale can be associated to a humidity meter to obtain the dry weight

Apres un bref rappel des principes de la methode, on decrit l'appareil de pesee qui comprend une source radioactive (cesium 137 on cobalt 60) un detecteur (chambre a ionisation ou compteur a scintillation) et un amplificateur. L'etalonnage et les performances sont obtenues a l'aide d'un microprocesseur. On obtient une precision de +- 2%, pouvant atteindre +- 0,5% dans les meilleurs cas. On rappelle les reglements legaux. Actuellement 3000 balances radiometriques sont en usage dans le monde principalement aux USA, en Australie et en Afrique du Sud.
