Further possibilities for measurement on pp-systems using the cyclotron trap

  • 1. Kernforschungszentrum Karlsruhe Institut fur Kernphysik und Institut fur Experimentelle Kernphysik der Universitat Karlsruhe

Description

This chapter considers the cyclotron trap as a means for the measurement of antiprotonic K-X-rays in hydrogen isotopes. It is demonstrated that working with low pressure hydrogen gas enables new kinds of measurements which are not feasible with collision-disturbed high pressure p-p-systems. Topics covered include atomic states (transitions between low n-levels; the transition between higher n energy levels), nuclear states (baryonium, glue balls) and radiative annihilation channels, and energy dependence of annihilation cross sections at very low energies. The cyclotron trap vacuum chamber is designed to be compact and can be easily surrounded with detectors for charged or neutral particles with large solid angles
