Point defect sink strengths and void-swelling

Description
Accurate expressions for the effective sink strengths of voids and dislocations are derived and discussed in relation to the approximate strengths used by Brailsford and Bullogh in their rate theory of void-swelling. In particular the accurate sink strength now enables the homogeneous rate theoretical model to reproduce all the features of the equivalent cellular model. Specific numerical calculations are presented to clarify the actual significance of these improved sink strengths to the swelling in cold-worked and solution-treated materials. (Auth.)
