Plutonium behavior in floodplain soils

Description

The peculiarities of the 239- and 240-plutonium behavior and spatial distribution in the floodplain soils of the Techa-Iset river system, contaminated by the high radioactive wastes of the PO Mayak, are studied. It is established that the plutonium content in all the studied areas is by 10-100 times higher as compared to the global emission level and it regularly decreases by removal from the contamination source. The analysis of the plutonium concentration ratio to the 90Sr and 137Cs concentration revealed the differences in their migration capability which decreases in the 90Sr > 239,240Pu > 137Cs series. The values of the radionuclides transition into the plants decrease in the same manner
