MR tomography of haemophilic arthropathy of the knee

Description

The value of MR tomography in the diagnosis and follow-up of haemophilic arthropathy of the knee was studied in 40 examinations, using special surface coils. Good spatial resolution and reconstruction in various planes provide an accurate demonstration of the lesion, particularly of the intra-articular structures. Abnormalities of the synovia and of hyaline cartilage can be demonstrated. MR tomography is an important imaging method which is superior to sonography or CT in demonstrating complications resulting from the bleeding, such as effusions and haemarthroses. (orig.)

Abstract (German)

Unter Verwendung einer speziell fuer das Kniegelenk entwickelten Oberflaechenspule wird anhand von 40 Untersuchungen dieses Gelenks bei Haemophiliepatienten der Stellenwert der MR-Tomographie in der Diagnostik und Verlaufskontrolle der haemophilen Arthropathie dargestellt. Die gute raeumliche Aufloesung sowie die multiplanare Abbildung erlauben eine exakte Darstellung insbesondere der intraartikulaeren Strukturen. Damit werden auch pathologische Veraenderungen an der Synovia und am hyalinen Gelenkknorpel deutlich. In der Diagnostik von Komplikationen des Blutergelenks - Erguss, Haemarthros - bedeutet die nicht-invasive MR-Tomographie ein wichtiges bildgebendes Verfahren, das der Sonographie und Computertomographie ueberlegen ist.
