AC 211, a variable UV star and X-ray binary in M 15

Description
IUE and optical spectroscopy of AC 211 are presented. The spectra show strong and variable He II 1640 A and 4686 A emission, weaker Balmer emission, and He I in absorption. From the He I lines, the binary period is deduced to be about 9 hours, and it is found that the star has a remarkable systemic velocity of -150 + or - 10 km/s relative to the cluster
