Phase change of liquid droplet in vacuum

  • 1. Tohoku Univ., Sendai (Japan)

Description

In an accident of coolant leakage into a vacuum vessel of a fusion reactor, the leaked coolant, which is water in the ITER, will not only evaporate but also solidify in some case. Therefore, as a primary study, the phase change of a liquid droplet in the vacuum is analysed using the Navier-Stokes' and enthalpy conserved equations. The numerical result indicates that there is some possibility of the evaporation of the water accompanied with its solidification. (author)
