Description

The energy dependence of effective nuclear forces in free space arising from the elimination of configurations outside a model space is discussed. This energy dependence provides the key to the understanding of why the best theoretical descriptions of the deuteron matter radius are given by energy-independent potentials and not by energy-dependent potentials such as the full Bonn potential.
