Roentgenological anatomy of the colon and rectum im children

A method of graded hydrostatic irrigoscopy standardized by the hydrostatic pressure and the actual colon capacity is proposed. Roentgenoanatomic standards of the colon and rectum have been worked out, and the colon capacity and the length of the anal canal have been calculated for different age groups. The percentage of contrast of the vermiform process decreases with age from 80% during the 1st year of life to 14% in older children. The proposed irrigoscopy method and roentgenometric analysis of roetgenograms help to improve the diagnosis of colon diseases. A conclusion has been made that individual differences in the colon and rectum parameters develop in the course of ontogenesis
