X-ray luminescence of pure and Sm, Er activated CdF2 crystals

Description

Under pulsed X-irradiation, CdF2-Sm, Er, exhibits luminescence with two decay times: tausub(M) > 1 μs and tausub(delta) approximately equal to 5 ns. The slow component not present in a pure CdF2 is connected with the activator and has its characteristic bands. The fast component (broad band with lambdasub(max)=420 nm) is due to the (Vsub(K)+esup(-)) luminescence and is present in both pure and activated crystals. Owing to the great difference between the decay times, it was possible to register the roentgenoluminescence of rare earth ions in spite of the more intense intrinsic luminescence of CdF2 and to identity the radiative transitions
