Identification and absorbed dose determination in irradiated kiwi by electron paramagnetic resonance

Description
A methodology for identification and absorbed dose determination in irradiated Kiwi with doses between 200 and 1000 Gy is present. Measurement are performed by Electron Paramagetic Resonance (ESR) in the flesh of the fruit after alcohol extration that removes water and soluble substances. The signal used is the radial produced in cellulose by radiation that shows to be stable during the usefull life of the fruit and that is not present in non-irradiated samples. Reference samples are not necessary to dose determination and the results shows that 85% of the calculated values are found to be within ± 15% of the applied initial dose.
